Saul Tapia Vega
Saul Tapia Vega is a lifelong Lafayette resident and community-focused leader dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of his neighbors. As a first-generation American, and the first in his family to earn a college degree, he works to encourage and advocate for others, particularly those from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
Saul grew up in Lafayette attending Escuela Bilingue Pioneer, Angevine Middle School, and Centaurus High School. He became a small business owner at 19, turning a struggling company into a profitable local enterprise, while simultaneously helping support his family. He went on to attend and graduate from Front Range Community College and then transferred to the University of Colorado where he studied political science.
Saul has been instrumental to the growth and success of the Latino Chamber of Commerce where he previously served on staff and then as part of the board of directors. In 2023, he joined the Colorado Governor’s office where he now serves as Deputy Director of Community Engagement, leading community engagement, outreach, constituent services, and correspondence for the Office of the Governor. In May, he was one of 23 government employees presented with a public service award, receiving recognition for his work on behalf of the State of Colorado.
Saul has volunteered with several local organizations including the NAACP, Front Range Community College, Longmont Latinx Voices, and EforAll. He’s been serving on Lafayette City Council since November 2023, striving to make Lafayette a more affordable, inclusive, and welcoming city.
“Saul and I have known each other since we were both DREAMER scholars in Lafayette. I’ve firsthand seen Saul growth and amazing leadership. Saul is a kind person who is a strong public advocate. I believe he is the right person for the job and I firmly believe that he can continue to be an effective and dedicated leader in Lafayette.”
